Short history: According to the church traditions in Spain, the Virgin Mary appeared while she was still alive to the Apostle St. James who was preaching in a small village called Zaragoza, in Spain, near River Ebro. There, Saint James became disheartened because of the failure in his mission. While he was in deep prayer, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him and gave him a small wooden statue of herself and the column of jasper wood. She then, instructed him to build the church in her honor at the very location where the column stood.

The Apostle built the first chapel a year later, which is now enclosed in a Basilica. This chapel showcases the 38cm. high statue, which dates back to the end of the 14th century and stands on the 18cm. diameter pillar, which is covered with a gilded plate of silver.
